FAQ

Can I order food and eat it at the table while I’m playing boardgames?

Yes! You’re more than welcome to order any food from the menu during your boardgame session and eat it while you play. If you are making a booking online and would like to do this, select the ‘Boardgame’ option for your booking – it will cover eating as well as playing.

I’ve made a booking and the email I received is telling me I’m on a waitlist, is this a confirmation?

Our online booking system will sometimes place you in a waitlist instead of automatically allocating you to a table or a karaoke room. This is either because we are fully booked, or the number of people in your booking requires staff confirmation first. If we accept or reject your booking from the waitlist, you should receive an email shortly after informing you.

What’s the difference between Kbox Cafe and Kbox Bar?

When you are making a booking online you will have the option of making a booking at either our Kbox Cafe venue, or our Kbox Bar venue. Kbox Cafe is to distinguish us from our La Trobe St venue – Kbox Bar. Kbox Bar is a licensed, dedicated karaoke venue without a boardgame cafe attached. If you would like to make a booking there instead, please call them on (03) 9663 9663 during their business hours or online through their website https://kbox.com.au/

Do I have to make a booking or do you accept walk-ins?

You are more than welcome to walk-in, however during weekends and busy periods we cannot guarantee that we will be able to fit you in. To avoid disappointment please make a booking.

Can I bring alcohol or do you sell alcohol?

As we are unlicensed, the consumption of alcohol is prohibited anywhere in this venue. This includes BYO. If you would like to sing karaoke at a licensed venue please make a booking at our Kbox Bar venue located on 52 La Trobe St. You can contact them on (03) 9663 9663 or make a booking online at https://kbox.com.au/

Can I bring other outside food or drink?

Unfortunately we do not allow outside food or drink into our cafe or karaoke rooms. We have a full food and drink menu that you can order from anytime during your session.

What about a birthday cake?

Bringing a cake (or cupcakes) for a birthday is the only exception to our policy of no outside food or drink. Please let us know in the notes of your online booking whether you would like us to keep your cake refrigerated for you.

Are children the same price as adults?

Children 12 and under receive 20% off our boardgame and karaoke prices. No charge for children 6 and under for our Boardgame and Karaoke with adults present.

I know smoking is not allowed inside the cafe or karaoke rooms, but what about vaping?

Under Victoria's Tobacco Act 1987 (the Tobacco Act), smoking and the use of e-cigarettes (vaping) is prohibited in all enclosed workplaces and certain public spaces where members of the public gather. This is because there may be exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke and the aerosol (vapour) from e-cigarettes.

Is the Party K package on a Friday and Saturday 4 hours long?

Party K packages on a Friday and Saturday night can be booked between 9pm until we close at 1am. The package itself is for 2 hours duration. For example, if you make a booking for 9:30pm your session will run from 9:30pm – 11:30pm.

Why do I have to pay to play boardgames?

At Marche your entry fee covers your 3 hour boardgame session where you can play as many games as you wish, and is inclusive of any drink from our menu. This works out to be a few dollars an hour for entertainment in the CBD – a very competitive price. Having a cover charge to play boardgames is essential for us to sustain our business. We have been trading for over 9 years and this would not be possible if we relied solely on food and drink sales. There have been boardgame cafe/bar venues in the past who did this and sadly, they are no longer in business. An entrance fee also means you’re under no obligation to order anything while you are here and can instead focus on gaming if that is what you’re after.

Can we play boardgames inside the karaoke rooms?

We keep our karaoke and boardgame sessions separate so that we can offer the full range of games to people while they are in the cafe. Secondly, this is to better ensure that we reduce the amount of wear and tear on the games, as well as lost pieces. If you would like to play games after your karaoke session you’re more than welcome to ask staff to book you a space in the cafe for a later time.

The song I want is not on the karaoke system, how do I add it?

To comply with licensing laws we purchase our karaoke songs from a third party company who specializes in this. Because the process of acquiring songs can take time, we prefer to do this periodically so that we can add as many as possible at once into the system. Usually we update the system every couple of months. If you would like us to add specific songs to the next update, please write a list of songs in an email and send it to [email protected]

Do you have Gluten-free and Halal options?

We don't have gluten-free option on our menu. All our food is free of alcohol and blood, some of our items contain pork, and some that don’t will be fried in the same oil as items that do. Our vegan options containing tofu are Halal. Due to the small size of our kitchen however, we cannot guarantee that our otherwise-Halal options haven’t been prepared with the same tools that have at some point been used to prepare foods containing pork. For this reason it is a bit more difficult to give our food a Halal label.
